Civil engineering

Structural engineering

This maximises the benefit while minimising the risk to the budget and programme. On all of our projects, we employ 3D modelling tools to help with integration.

Façade engineering

At HOLISTEK, we consider façade engineering as the technique of addressing aesthetic, environmental, fire safety and structural challenges in order to innovate a habitable enclosure.


With the rising complexity and performance demands on buildings design and performance, there is a need to effectively validate the design and convey the client and designer's objectives to people who are responsible for implementing modern building façades.


The façade of a contemporary structure is one of the most expensive and crucial aspects of building construction, accounting for a significant portion of total budget. Façades are the embodiment of an architect's anticipation of a building's external look. They are the principal environmental modulator and have the highest level of previous failure.


With the call of new and more stringent energy standards, façade design must be part of a comprehensive asset management strategy. Science, in particular, must be carefully studied when dealing with issues such as façade performance, fire safety and energy saving.

To create optimal value for clients and occupants, concerns such as predictive thermal modelling approaches, testing, lighting, fire engineering and acoustic engineering must now be considered, in addition to the current challenges of durability, sustainability, and structural engineering. The blurring of the borders is evidenced by the fact that energy saving and legislative compliance are now a question of balancing the disciplines.


As the nature of building façades becomes increasingly important, so does the degree of technology involved. The demand for considering the level of safety in the façade is to be higher than before with an element of safety integration as part of other aspect of a structure.

Fire engineering

Fire Safety Engineering may be defined as the application of engineering principles within a system (e.g. a building, transportation system etc.) in order to:

  • Identify the fire risks involved
  • Establish the required safety levels
  • Design a compliant solution

HOLISTEK Fire is a leader in developing fire safety-engineered solutions to architecturally bespoke buildings and underground spaces, with experience in solving ‘difficult’ cases in a cost-effective manner.


We do this by thoroughly understanding the intentions of the prescriptions, and by using leading-edge computational tools to carefully check our proposals. These include Computational Fluid Dynamics tools for calculating smoke spread, and Finite Element calculations to model the structural deformations due to fire-induced heating.
